PRIVACY/CARDANO
MINIMISE. SOURCE. EXPLAIN. CORRECT.
INDEX:80 is designed around data minimisation. Its subject is public projects, organisations, public web resources, public technical identifiers and people whose work is materially relevant to the Cardano ecosystem — not private individuals.
1. PURPOSE & CONTACT
This policy explains how INDEX:80 handles personal data in connection with index80.com, project submissions and corrections, editorial research, analytics, technical logs and related communications.
INDEX:80 is an independent project operated by Adam Winstanley, Scotland, UK. The privacy contact for the service is [email protected]. Personal-data requests, objections, corrections and privacy questions can be sent to that address.
2. WHAT INFORMATION WE MAY HANDLE
Depending on how you use the site, INDEX:80 may process:
- information submitted through project-submission or correction workflows, including project/name details, URLs, optional contact information and free-text notes;
- correspondence sent to INDEX:80;
- public professional or project information found on official websites, documentation, repositories, public social accounts, blockchain explorers, on-chain records and public archives;
- public account names, project-team names, public roles and public contact routes where materially relevant to a project record or a People profile;
- technical and security information such as IP address, browser/device information, timestamps and anti-abuse signals generated by hosting, security or form-processing services;
- consent-based analytics information; and
- editorial provenance showing which sources were used, when a link was checked and how a publication decision was reached.
INDEX:80 does not intentionally collect special-category, criminal-offence or other sensitive personal information as part of its normal editorial process.
3. WHERE INFORMATION COMES FROM
Information may come directly from a project or individual, from a community submission, or from publicly accessible sources. These can include official project websites, documentation, GitHub, public social accounts, blockchain explorers and on-chain records, the Internet Archive / Wayback Machine, public domain-registration data and other public web datasets.
Where public-source information materially supports an INDEX:80 record, the source should be retained internally and, where appropriate, made understandable in the public evidence/provenance shown on the site.
4. WHY WE USE PERSONAL DATA
Editorial research and verification. INDEX:80 uses relevant public information to identify genuine project destinations, check current public presence, distinguish active from inactive resources and maintain an evidence-based index. The lawful basis is legitimate interests in operating an accurate, transparent and useful public web index, subject to necessity and proportionality. The same basis applies to the factual People profiles described in section 7.
Submissions, corrections and correspondence. Information is used to receive, review and respond to submissions, corrections, questions and other communications. The lawful basis is legitimate interests in operating the editorial service; consent may apply to optional communications.
Security and abuse prevention. Technical information may be processed to protect the website, forms, users and infrastructure. The lawful basis is legitimate interests in service security and integrity and, where applicable, legal obligation.
Analytics. Optional analytics are used to understand whether the site works and which public pages are useful. Non-essential analytics are only activated after consent.
5. AI & AUTOMATION
INDEX:80 uses software automation and multiple AI tools to assist with research, classification, evidence synthesis, data-quality checks, coding and editorial workflows.
AI does not have final editorial authority. Public project and People records require human review before publication. INDEX:80 does not use solely automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on individuals.
Private submission data, credentials and security-sensitive information are kept out of public repositories and are not intentionally shared with AI systems unless needed for a specific, controlled operational task.
6. SERVICE PROVIDERS
INDEX:80 uses Cloudflare for website hosting, CDN/security, Turnstile anti-abuse checks, the D1 submission database and the live Cardano data service; GitHub for source-code hosting and deployment history; Google Workspace for internal editorial and operational records (including the private submission review workspace); Google Analytics for optional consent-based analytics; and approved AI providers for research and technical work.
The public submission form sends its required project fields, any optional links (X/Social, Discord, GitHub), established date, submitter name/email/notes and the Turnstile verification result to INDEX:80's Cloudflare-hosted submission service. Accepted submissions are stored in the INDEX:80 D1 database, and a notification containing the submission is emailed to INDEX:80's private editorial inbox for human review. Submitter name and email are never published.
Where a provider processes information outside the UK, INDEX:80 relies on the relevant provider and applicable legal transfer mechanism, adequacy arrangement or contractual safeguard. INDEX:80 does not sell personal data.
7. PUBLICATION, EVIDENCE & CORRECTIONS
INDEX:80 publishes information about projects and public web resources, not private dossiers about people. Outside the People directory, a person's name, public role or public professional profile should only be published where relevant and proportionate to understanding or locating a project.
People and public profiles. INDEX:80 may publish factual profiles of people whose work is materially connected to the Cardano ecosystem. These profiles are compiled from public, relevant and proportionate information and are intended to help users understand projects, organisations, governance, research and community activity.
INDEX:80 does not publish private dossiers or unnecessary personal information, such as home locations, family details, private contact details or follower counts. Publication does not imply endorsement, approval or participation by the person profiled. Profile images are sourced from the person's own public profile or other clearly attributable public source. Individuals may ask us to update, replace or remove an image at any time. Individuals may request corrections, clarification, objection or review at any time through the People corrections and objections process, Submit / corrections or [email protected].
Public inclusion means that INDEX:80 has reviewed a project's identity, canonical links and current public presence sufficiently for indexing. It is not an endorsement, security audit, token certification or investment recommendation.
INDEX:80 may retain historical evidence showing when a public URL was observed or checked, its response/redirect status and credible archived evidence. Historical evidence records an observation; it does not prove uninterrupted activity.
If a description, link, identifier, status or personal-data point is wrong, request a review through Submit / corrections or email [email protected].
8. RETENTION
Personal data is kept only for as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected. As a working standard:
- rejected, duplicate or abandoned submissions: normally up to 12 months after the editorial decision;
- optional submitter contact details: normally deleted or anonymised within 12 months after the relevant submission or correspondence is concluded, unless an ongoing relationship requires them;
- correspondence: normally up to 24 months after the matter is concluded;
- security/operational logs: the shortest practical provider/configuration period consistent with security and troubleshooting;
- consent-based analytics: the shortest reasonable configured period and periodically reviewed; and
- public project records, source provenance and non-sensitive historical link evidence: may be retained while useful as an editorial or historical record.
9. COOKIES, LOCAL STORAGE & ANALYTICS
INDEX:80 uses essential storage/access technologies only where needed for service operation, security, remembering a consent choice or remembering non-sensitive display preferences you choose, such as theme and collapsed windows. Those display preferences stay in local browser storage unless you reset them or clear the browser's site data. Refusing optional analytics does not prevent access to the core index.
Google Analytics is a production-only, consent-gated service. It does not load on the INDEX:80 production site until a visitor actively accepts analytics. The consent choice is remembered locally in the visitor's browser, and it can be revisited using the Cookie preferences control in the footer.
10. YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on the circumstances and lawful basis, you may have rights including access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and data portability. Where processing relies on consent, consent can be withdrawn without affecting earlier lawful processing.
Right to object: where INDEX:80 relies on legitimate interests, you can object by emailing [email protected] and explaining the processing you are concerned about. INDEX:80 will consider the objection against the purpose, evidence and applicable law.
11. SECURITY & COMPLAINTS
INDEX:80 applies proportionate safeguards including controlled account access, multi-factor authentication where available, separation of private records from public code/data, restricted handling of credentials, human review before publication and personal-data minimisation.
If you have a privacy concern, contact [email protected] first so it can be investigated and corrected where appropriate. You can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/ ↗.
12. LIVE SERVICE & CHANGES
This is the live public privacy policy for INDEX:80. It reflects the service currently in use, including the public index, the People directory, Cloudflare-hosted submission workflow, consent-gated analytics, editorial research process and live data infrastructure.
The policy is versioned and will be updated when INDEX:80 materially changes its data practices, providers or legal obligations. The version and date at the top of this page identify the current public notice.
